Dr Who Screen Saver

Introduction

This Dr Who screen-saver is designed along the lines of the credit sequences to the program (though not a direct copy of any one of them in particular).

It was written using Blitz 3D, a rather excellent package for creating 3D programs without all that tedious mucking about with DirectX interfaces and C++ programming. If you have an interest in 3D programming, it is well worth checking out, as well as being reasonably priced (and there is demo version, so you can try it out first. Find it at the Blitz home-page.

You can download the screen-saver here, in one of a number of formats. If you want to check out what it looks like, there are some small screen-shots here:

Full installation

This download is a complete installation program. Download it and run it, and the screen-saver will be automatically installed for you. All you then need to do is to go to your display properties and select it from the list of available screen savers. You might want to adjust the settings, or select a different music file for it.

This is the easiest option. It is also the largest download, at something over 6MB. If your connection is slow, and you are reasonably computer-literate, you might want to try one of the other options instead.

ZIP File with all files

This download is a ZIP file containing the full screen saver. Download it, then extract it into your Windows directory. Be careful! You must tell your 'unzip' package to keep the directory structure. If you are using the DOS command-line PKUNZIP program, use the -d option. If you are using WINZIP, make sure the 'Use folder names' check-box on the Extract screen is ticked. If you are using another Zip program, you are on your own...

This download is about 2.5 MB in size.

ZIP File with no music

This is identical to the previous ZIP file, but it does not contain the WAV file with the music. The screen saver will run quite happily without this file, and you can also select your own music file to use if you have something suitable (go to the screen saver settings). The file which comes the full install is the famous DocMix wave file -- if you already have a copy of this, then this smaller install is your best option.

This download is about 1.1 MB in size.
