Music (Drafts)

These are the first drafts of the original in-game music, which will eventually replace the, ahem, borrowed pieces that are currently being used.

Latest Version (Development Release 1.00)

This comes in two flavours. The full version has all the in-game atmospheric music, but weighs in at 11 MB. The cut-down version omits the in-game music (in space, no-one can hear you sing...) and is only 4 MB.

Finding your way around the game

When the game starts, select a suitable video mode, taking the recommended one if you are not sure. Then select 'Play', and admire the opening credits. When you play the game again you can press the ESC key or the spacebar to skip the intro.

When the game proper begins, the help screen will be automatically displayed, and will tell you the keypresses you need to use (sorry, no joystick support yet). Press ESC or click the 'X' button to remove the help screen. You can call it back again using the Help button at the top-right of the screen.

Fly around a bit. Enjoy the view. Admire the planets. Admire the space station (not our work, we're afraid -- downloaded from one of the 'free model' sites on the net). Admire the solar lens flare. Click the 'fly-by' button for a small, different view of your ship. Press C to see the view from the cockpit.

Once you get bored, click the Galaxy button. You will see a picture of the whole galaxy, with a rectangular cursor following the mouse. Use this to select a section of the galaxy (actually, you will initially want to select the section you are currently in, which is marked with a red rectangle).

You will now be shown a close-up of the selected section. Move the mouse pointer around to find the names of the stars. The buttons can be used to rotate the view (click the Help button to find the keyboard shortcuts). Stars in red are not accessible from your current location, as your ship has a limited hyperjump range, but you can get to them by moving to a nearer star first.

Click on a star, and the details will be displayed at the top of the screen, as the hyperspace target.

Click the Exit button, and you will return to the main screen. At the top of the screen, the Jump to button will now show the name of the star which you selected. Click this button to jump to this new solar system (not forgetting to admire the hyperjump graphics).

Fly around the new solar system. Go to other solar systems and fly around them.

And that's it. So far, so boring. Come back later, and we hope to have added some more interesting things to do...
